karlstad

Thursday, April 28, 2011

Ok so we're likely jumping on the Karlstad bandwagon.

We need a couch on the main floor when we move our sectional to the basement and we don't want to spend a ton of cash so we trekked over to Ikea last night to check it out.

Honestly I really like this couch. The dark grey is perfect (because ya know we're [I'm] obsessed with grey) and the size will fit nicely in front our livingroom window. It's cozy enough to go along with my livingroom inspiration photo and the best part? It's $599. Can't be that price. The one caveat: the legs! I'm not sure why these are the standard legs but they will have to go. We'll either look into replacing them with the metal legs or do what Sherry and John did and stain them.

Next we'll have to consider the chair options for the livingroom. We'll see what we find!

office love

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

My office is located in a back sunporch type room in my house which I love because I can look out into the garden, but I'm just loving this office -- it's so organized and I love the rustic desk paired with the fun ikat blue chair. Love it.

living room inspiration

Monday, April 18, 2011

I spotted this living room on The Marion House Book today and I'm in love. Inhabitants Jenn and Marc are lucky ducks. I decided that this is the perfect photo to use as inspiration for our living room once we move our leather sectional downstairs to the basement. I love how fresh and cozy this feels and not stuffy (like main floor living rooms can be). Best part is that we already have the curtains so we're off to a good start! ;)

chopped!

It's that time again -- time to chop. I got about 4 inches cut off today and I could not be happier. Care of my friend Kim at Willow Salon in Dundas Ontario.

gloria!

Monday, April 11, 2011

The hubster, mini-hubster and I were dancing to Gloria on the weekend and my sister snapped a photo of us mid song & dance. Leo just loves dancing around with us. Ok I like the dancing part too ;). Man I love this song.

I just realized that something is wrong with my blog -- the previous posts link isn't working for some reason -- annoying! I'll have to take some time to figure out what's going on.

basement reno - columns

Monday, April 04, 2011

I never thought I would love new basement columns as much as I love the new ones in our basement. This is what the columns used to look like:

Pretty huh?

We were actually going to live with them but the problem is that they're actually sinking -- well maybe not anymore but the floor sinks down under each column which would have made it REALLY FUN to put engineered hardwood down. Plus, when we moved in, we had to add a third column because the other two weren't doing a great job. So Mark said "Let's do this right" and he had a guy come in to pour new footings and install new columns. So now it looks like this right now:

I love these columns! The change has made it so much more open which will help fitting our ginormous black leather sectional into the room (provided we get it down the stairs -- but I'm sure I've mentioned that before...).

Next up on the schedule: this week some guys are coming to demo all of the concrete, then the plumbers are coming to put in-floor heating. We found out that it's actually cheaper to put the radiant floor heating then to get rads in the basement so we're sold. After that is done, the concrete will be poured and then we can start on the drywall etc. I can't wait!

ps- Have you seen Janice's basement reno updates? Her reno is moving along swiftly and it's shaping up to be so nice! I can't wait to see the final basement!
