This boy.
Tuesday, April 07, 2015
It's not until I'm laying on the floor with him playing tic tac toe that I realize how much I miss this boy during the day. He was my first and will always be my first. I snuggled with him and read to him when he was just six weeks old. The fact that he rarely closed his eyes made me realize that he would be observant (he is) and that he would always be asking questions (he does).
Did you love me when I was a baby? He asked me this morning while eating his cereal and milk. Mila was still in bed and it was just the two of us.
Oh I certainly did, I say. You were such a sweet baby, but you know something? I still love you so much even now. My voice cracked while I was saying this because I realize he's not a baby anymore. When did that happen?
Even on the hardest days (they're getting easier now; they'll get harder again) I realize that I'm just not ready for them to grow up.
On patience and getting down to their level
Wednesday, November 26, 2014
I find as the years go by that I have fewer and fewer patience. I have two pretty good ideas when it happened. When I had Leo I still had all the patience in the world. If he had little meltdown, it was no biggie I knew what to do. I actually have a video of us on a plane to Florida and Leo is restless and upset and I had a smile on my face.
When two kids are in the picture it's a different story. At least it is for me. Add to that the fact that they are only 20 months apart and you've go a whole new ball game. As my kids get older, they become more independent. More vocal. More demanding. And I'm constantly trying to figure out how to deal with it. I had a completely different upbringing than the one we're providing for our kids so it's all been an ongoing learning process (which it is for everyone, I know this...).
I get asked all the time how they play together and my answer is that they play really well together. They also fight really well together. I find the fighting so stressful sometimes, but I remember fighting with my sister. We'd throw things at each other! We'd sit on each other!
It's all coming back to me now...
Anyway when the high stress levels come into play, staying patient and calm is very tough for me. This is due to my need to control a situation (I am the oldest of three girls after all! ;)). I asked my friend the other day, who has three kids, where I can buy some patience. She said that you have to pretend. Only pretending takes patience too.
One day we had had a pretty stressful week and I just got down on the ground and sat at their level. I watched them. We played. We hugged. We laughed. There was no stress.
Every time I get down to their level it's like the stress melts away. They don't see a giant (ha!) looking down on them. They see their momma down on the ground looking at them and they love it. They respond well to it. I just have to remember this and keep doing it.
Tell me... are you a patient person? How do you deal with stress?
Moving right along...
Wednesday, September 10, 2014
Things have been moving right along over here in real life, some things are slow and some are a little too fast for my liking. The fast? Hmm let's see:
Some how this little girl turned two a few weeks ago.
And this boy started school
I've been spending my time with Mila on my own which has been fun. She's growing up so fast and it's neat to be with her one-on-one. I'm also slowly getting back into the swing of things for blogging and work. I'm attending BlogPodium this weekend so I'm sure that will help with motivation!
Hope everyone is doing well!

Three
Monday, November 25, 2013
So all of a sudden this boy is three. Although, I have to be honest it's felt like he's been three for quite some time. But there it is. A whole three years have gone by since that very long day (and night!) I spent in the hospital.
Friday we spent the morning downtown at the new aquarium. It was pretty nice and Leo loved seeing everything. There's a play area in the centre and I think he was most interested in making his way there the whole time. He said his favourite were the jellyfish which I have to agree with (although the shark tank was a very close second). Super cool.
On Saturday we had a small family birthday party. Leo was very specific that he wanted a John Deere party so I got to work. All week he would talk about the tractors he was going to get and he was not disappointed. Now he has two really cool big tractors to call his own, plus two I added to the cake. Oh and his grandmother got him a zamboni which he is equally excited about.
If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen a few of the party themed pics, but here's a photo little recap:
We spent Sunday doing nothing (I think I was in my PJs until 3) which was the perfect ending to the weekend in my books.
Well that's it! I hope you had a great weekend too wherever you are! xo
Quick and dirty: step stool cover
Monday, November 04, 2013

This isn't the prettiest post, but it made me happy so I thought I'd share it. Leo needed a step stool for his potty training adventures (he's fully trained during the day - underwear and all yay!) and I was going to get this one from Ikea but the colour I wanted wasn't in stock when I was there. Mark brought this really nice one in from the garage and we made do with that until we got the Ikea one.
Well guess what? I'm cheap and the practical side of me said why bother spending money on a stool when I have this one. I'll just recover it. So that's what I did.
I picked something out of my fabric stash and got to work.
Honestly this is not my best work. There are puckers and folds, but it's a huge improvement from the paint stained blue stool we had before and I saved a few bucks. And now Leo can go potty and wash his hands all by his lonesome. Win-win I say!
pasketti

I made garlic scape pesto pasta with veggies tonight for dinner and I was hesitant about giving Leo the linguini because he's so picky (he eats most things we give him for dinner now, but it still takes some coaxing), but the second I put the bowl down he was shovelling it into his mouth. My jaw dropped to the floor. It was pretty hilarious.
We even got a little video of it...
What a kid...
mini project: seat cover
Monday, April 08, 2013
Leo has pretty much graduated from the high chair/booster seat to sitting with us at the table, but he's almost two and a half and of course the little bugger is messy.
Our chairs are leather and easily wipe down, but the the stitching is also white and so to prevent the chairs from getting too gucked-up (that's a word right?) I made a chair cover. Or as I tell Leo, a chair bib.
It just slips over the top and since it's oil cloth it cleans up pretty easily.
This took me about 10 minutes to make, even with Leo sitting beside me practically shoving his head into the sewing machine asking 'what's that?' a hundred times.
An added bonus: it has helicopters.

I bought some oil cloth when I was pregnant with Leo to make cushions for his high chair, but I never got around to it. I had just the right amount (about a yard) to make this cover.

weekend fun: blue rodeo and romancing the rails
Monday, February 04, 2013
Hey there - hope you had a nice weekend! As I mentioned Friday, Friday night we went to see Blue Rodeo. It was a fantastic show and so nice to get out just the two of us.
Saturday afternoon we took Leo and Mila to see a model train show in Liberty Village here in Toronto called The Romance of the Rails put on by The Model Railroad Club of Toronto. He loved it! It was amazing to see all of the work and finite attention to detail that has gone into making this village. Apparently there are 5000 feet of track - unreal!

If you or your little ones are interested in going, the show is open for a few more weekends before everything is moved to a new location. Check out the site for more info.
Happy Monday!
the party
Tuesday, November 27, 2012
Our party for Leo kind of turned into an adult party... I didn't really do much for the kids: I put out some Annie's Bunny crackers and printed some colouring pages that I forgot to put out. But the kids always seem to have fun anyway.
We went for a cars & trucks kind of theme. I ordered a banner and cupcake toppers from Little Birdie Prints from Etsy. I was going to make my own but it was taking too long and I'm impatient...
I made these cupcakes (so good!!) that I found on Pinterest. I've never made icing before and I cannot believe that's basically tons of butter and sugar. Yikes! Oh well, good thing I don't make these very often!
| Doesn't our cat look enthused?
It was a fun day to share with everyone!

and the boy is two!
Monday, November 26, 2012
Wow... I'm tired. This weekend was Leo's birthday weekend and we had friends and family over since Thursday. It was a busy few days but fun as well.
Thursday was Leo's actual birthday so Mark took the day off and we headed to the zoo. I highly recommend going on a week day - no one is there!

I didn't think any of the animals would be out because the weather is getting cooler but we were in luck! Leo got to see all of the animals he's seen for the past two years in his room in real life. He was pretty excited.
Later that day I was able to snap a few pics of the little man as a two-year-old.
I can't believe he's two already! A little then and now...
I'll share a few pics later this week from his party. Happy Monday! I'm off to get some more coffee...
Happy Halloween!

Seems I have a lobster in the house!
My sister went to New Brunswick awhile back and came home with this lobster hat for Leo. It didn't quite fit, but I just turned it around and it does the trick. Yesterday I went to Fabricland to get material for the rest of the costume... total cost: around seven bucks :).
And we can't forget the little one! She's a pumpkin ballerina ;)
Have a great Halloween everyone!

pumpkins!
Monday, October 29, 2012
Mark brought some pumpkins home last week and got carving Saturday with his little assistant.
Pretty cute!
We put them on the porch and about an hour later the shifty city squirrels got to one of them, so now the pumpkin on the right has a bit of a wonky eye :).

what I've been up to...
Wednesday, August 29, 2012
The little bean is two weeks old now. So far she's pretty similar to how Leo was at this age, but man does she have some lungs! Leo has those too, but not as loud :).
Not too much going on around here - just a lot of spit up, sleeping (not sleeping), burping, feeding, park-going, strolling/walking, High Park train riding...
I'm also waiting on one more thing for the nursery and then I'm going to share some pics finally! It makes me happy every time I'm in there...
What have you been up to?
