ONE and MANY | ceramic design

Tuesday, February 17, 2015

I'm realizing that I have a slight obsession with ceramics on Etsy. There are so many gorgeous pieces that filter through my stream including these beautiful pieces from Ya'ara Landau-Katz of ONE and MANY based out of Netanya, Israel.

From Ya'ara:

"My work is characterized by clean, modern lines; I strive for a classic, sophisticated style with a twist. I love working with a minimal color palette: white, blue, gray and black. I always try to give my products strong elements of simplicity, and I like to search for new shapes and compositions to incorporate into my work. I’m inspired by my surroundings and special moments in the everyday. I believe inspiration is everywhere, you just need to grab it."

Ahh something to add to my love affair with black and white.

I noticed Catherine De Abreu's work right away when I was running through the One of a Kind Show in November. Catherine had her collection called Collection Cobalt that stopped me in my tracks. I loved the white and blue pottery with a unexpected twist of jellyfish and trees. I also love the handles on the mugs and tea pots. Totally rustic against their smooth white ceramic bodies.

I'm on the look out for new mugs because the mugs my dad and his wife gave me years ago have all managed to get hairlines cracks in them (you see the mugs here). I'm super sad about it because I love these mugs! I was looking around Etsy for some alternatives and found Paper and Clay Studio and man, what gorgeous pottery. I especially love the brilliant blue and white mug at the top and this black Danish pitcher right above. Gah! So beautiful.

Dotti Potts

If there is one thing you should know about me it's that I'm a bit of a procrastinator -- really doesn't take much to pull me away from something I should be doing. Just as I was heading out the door to get some card stock for my seating cards for the wedding, I realized I hadn't shown you my new cup! Last weekend I went to the One of Kind Spring Show and Sale here in the T-Dot and I sauntered by one of my favourite artists, Sandra Silberman of Dotti Potts. Her booth is always a breath of fresh air in a show like this (especially at the Christmas show) because she uses a pure lack of colour, making her pieces jump out among the crowd.

Since most of my money these days is going towards the trip and the wedding, I didn't have much of a budget for the show, but I did want to get something. I opted for one of Sandra's beautiful wine cups because it could be used for either wine, tea or a handful of flowers.
