$4.99 goes a long way

Friday, July 16, 2010

I whipped these puppies up last night and this morning for the market tomorrow one of them using the rest of my $4.99 Ikea fabric I used for my porch pillows and then some Alexander Henry fabric I bought a while back.

I've been staring at the AH fabric for some time wondering what to do with it...I didn't want to touch it because I love it so much. I don't know what came over me but I just cut it up and made a bag with it and will have a little zip pouch to match. I love this bag and want to keep it, but we'll see if someone buys it tomorrow and if not it's mine. :)

Take care and have a great weekend!

What a Wychy Weekend

Thursday, July 15, 2010

This weekend I'm heading to mid-ish town to the WychCraft Market to sell more of my bags and hang out with cool and crafty people. My sister is coming with me which will be fun. She can help me set up my table and lift anything that I can't (or don't want to as a result of my belly getting bigger by the minute ;)) but really it'll be fun just to hang out with her.

As you know, I haven't had any motivation to sew, but I have managed to cut out a few more bags and zip pouches that I'll be putting together tonight and tomorrow night.

My lack of motivation right now seems to be coming from the latest book I've been reading: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Honestly, I don't know why I pick up these books because I have a really hard time putting them down. I've talked to my brother-in-law about this a few times as he's a mega reader as well and there is just something about picking up a book and not wanting to do ANYTHING BUT READ the book. It really does take over my life. And the worst part is that there are at least two more of these freaking books after this one so I know I'm going to keep busy this summer reading (when I should be sewing).

So, what was I talking about? I've gone and lost track again.

Oh yes. This weekend.

So if you're in the St. Clair and Bathurst area this weekend (I think the construction is all done!) come by the WychCraft Market and see what's going on. I think there is a woman there who sells chocolates... at least there was last year. Oh and someone who sells iced coffee. There is also a really cool farmers' market around the corner at the Wychwood Barns that I'm sure you'll love.

Once I get my current bags done I'll upload some pics. I'm using the rest of my Ikea fabric from my pillows for one bag and some REALLY pretty Alexander Henry fabric that I'm going to have a really hard time parting with for another.

Until then, have an amazing weekend and talk to y'all soon!

Just totin'

I'm back from the market and it was fun.

Kind of a plain way to start a post but I'm at a bit of a loss for words for some reason tonight. I think it's because all I can think about is the lasagna rolls I made for dinner. There's plenty leftover for my lunch tomorrow and I want to eat it now.

Ok back to the market. FOCUS. Bloomin' Earth took place in Kitchener, Ontario -- which is, as I mentioned in the last post is about an hour west of Toronto. That is of course depending on what time you leave during the day :)

Mark came with me which I always think is cute. He just hangs out with me at my table and he even helped make a sale... I think I'll keep him. Now, this was a real market. There were LOADS of veggies and fruits in one corner, while the street and a little piazza type area were closed off to more than 60 crafty vendors. My table was beside a lovely woman originally from El Salvador who makes jewelry; on the other side were crafters who made girls' skirts, dresses, reusable zip locks snack pack bags and burp cloths that say "Spit Happens." So cute.

It was nice getting out of the house and chatting with other people who sew. The women I met do this for their living while they stay at home with their kids which I just think is amazing.

I do have some things leftover (mmm leftover lasagna rolls), so I took a boat-load of photos this week and uploaded them up into my shop. Feel free to have a look-see.

On another subject: What are you up to this weekend? I'm not afraid to tell you that it's my birthday on Saturday. I don't make as much of a big deal about it as I used to. I think it's because I'm starting to forget how old I am. For example, a few weeks ago someone asked me how old I was and I started with "Twenty..." and my husband looked at me like I was crazy. No I'm not in my twenties. Oooop. I'll be 33 in case you're wondering. My grandmother was kind enough to remind me with a little "33" sticker on the back of her card. Thanks Ma.

So this weekend I'll be having a couple dinners with friends and family. One thing I did request for my birthday dinner is to have a pizza party. So there will be a whole lot of homemade pizzas consumed this weekend. This is my heaven.

Take care and have a great weekend. Have a slice or two for me.

Sew Much Better

Sunday, August 23, 2009

This weekend was my second appearance at the WychCraft Market and I have to say this one went much better than the first in terms of expectations. After getting some good advice from a respected blogging friend, I told myself not to get worked up about this second event; to have fun and just relax. Guess what happened? I had fun. I made some nice new aquaintances and even sold a few things. I also changed up my table a bit and people responded really well to what I had to sell. (unfortunately I forgot my camera so all I have is this pic taken with my BlackBerry... not the best quality but will have to do...)

September 27 will be a year since starting this little side sewing biz so I'm going to use that date to get things in order and restock the shop. I'll be putting in all the things I didn't sell and look to add a few more.

Until then I'll be parking myself on my porch to finish reading my summer selection of books (that's what I've been doing mostly this summer - that and watching the crazy storms pass by).

Here's what I've read so far:
A Novel About My Wife, by Emily Perkins (a kind of quirky but sad story about marriage)
Food Matters: A Guide to Conscious Eating by Mark Bittman (this book really put into perspective how sad our current state of eating is right now)
The Flying Troutmans, by Miriam Toews (our book club selection -- VERY funny and quirky)

Currently reading:
The Lovely Bones, by Alice Seabold (super depressing story that I find too scary to read before bed)
The 30-Second Commute, by Stephanie Dickison (a book about being a freelance writer and working from home)

On the list still:
The Almost Moon, By Alice Seabold

Happy Sunday y'all!
