We took a little drive up to Caledon to visit Dixie Orchards. It's a quaint little farm north of Toronto that is kind of off the beaten path. Small crowds, coffee and apple cider, a small market, a few animals, tractor rides and of course pumpkins! I think Leo had the most fun playing with all those trucks more than anything. He was in heaven.

We got a few pumpkins and hopefully they last... the squirrels like to eat them around here. Little buggers.

An ode to beauty and fire in the sky

Thursday, October 23, 2014

There's a gorgeous tree on the way to Leo's school. The leaves are bright red and orange and there are a ton of them on the ground. I'm sure the home owners haven't cleaned them up because they're just so wonderful and vibrant.

We pass the tree every day, but today the sun was shining through it at just the right time and it stopped me in my tracks.

It looked like fire in the sky.

It was beautiful and it made me realize that there are still beautiful things in this world, we just have to look up at them.

Let's keep the beauty alive for as long as we can. Let's keep that fire burning.

It's pretty depressing to see the forecast for this week - RAIN. Thanks Sandy!

But I do have a bit of reprieve. Outside my window is a gorgeous yellow maple (at least I think it's a maple - arbory [aboristing??] is not one of my strong suits).

Yes that is also a pic of our poor dying cherry blossom tree

So in the midst of this crazy wind and gloomy skies, I feel like it's sunny out every time I look out the window. Now if only this tree could stay through the long winter...

fall sunday photo bomb

Yesterday, the fam ended up going on not one but two fall hikes! The first was at Sherwood Park Forest at Mount Pleasant and Eglinton. It was SO beautiful - the colours were out in full force!

The leaves gave everything an orange glow. So pretty.

My poor attempt at a self family pic. It wasn't too bad except we're missing one important member....

There she is!

We live on the west end of the city and of course Leo fell asleep in the car. We were going to Hamilton later in the day (to Mark's parent's house), so we decided to just continue on and take the long way along the Lakeshore so Leo could nap. We drive this way all the time and I highly recommend it over the boring highway. It's such a pretty drive.
Leo loves leaves
Once we got to Hamilton, we trekked out for our second fall walk near Mark's parent's house
Teaching Leo how to throw the nuts
Oh here we are again - assume position!

The colours were fantastic here too! Everything was yellow!

Hope you had a great weekend!

apple picking

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

This past weekend, we took a drive down to my home town to spend Thanksgiving with my parents. My mom had a great idea to go apple picking, so off we went!

We even got to take some pumpkin shots while we were there!

The one and only downside to the apple picking is that we didn't end up getting the apples we picked! You have to get them weighed and then go inside to pay for them. When we came out, our apples were gone and we were left with someone else's apples. We were all pretty disappointed because we took such care in selecting the best apples we could find. But what can you do?!
