powder room revamp

Thursday, January 03, 2013

As I mentioned yesterday, we were able to do a quick and dirty revamp of our powder room just before Christmas. I'm so excited to get this done. The room is COLD people... as in cold temperature because it's on an outside wall and even though there's a radiator in the bathroom, it's still cold on the tushie. Darn old homes...

Anyway I thought that by revamping the room it would help make it feel warm.

Here's the pic rundown:

Doesn't it just look cold in there???

And the after - along with our Christmas decorations - yay!

I chose the colour at lightening speed! We knew the bottom was going to be white (I don't know what white it is so don't ask!) and for the upper portion, I wanted something dark, warm and brown/grey. I did a search on the Benjamin Moore site for brown/grey and found Eagle Rock. I love it! I kind of tricked the hubster because really... it's grey...like the rest of the house. But because I told him it was brown/grey he was ok with it. Truthfully it is different from the other greys, but it's not far off.

Also I didn't show it in the pic, but we painted the ceiling too which really ups the coziness factor. It's kind of a big powder room so it helps it feel a bit smaller.

The only thing left to do is get a light for the room and I'm leaning toward a star pendant. I think it will glimmer on the ceiling!

Well that's it! Happy Thursday!

a little birdie told me about this little birdie

So I'm not a fan of things with labels - you know shirts that say GAP on them or glasses that have big D&Gs on the arms. Not my thing.

This also goes for soap pumps. I like 'em plain. The problem is that I started using Dr. Bronner's soap a month ago and you're supposed to mix it with water I guess, which I did, and it was coming out so thin and getting all over the sink, driving me batty (breathe).

A woman at the park told me to get some foam soap and just reuse the pump with the Dr. Bronner's refill but again, I'd have to use a pump with a label (and I'm not a fan of most hand soaps on the market in general) so I just stuck with the annoying thin soap.

THEN on a blog post somewhere in blogland I learned about these birdie foaming soap pumps from Umbra.

I had to go to the mall to run an errand and while there I went to Kitchen Stuff Plus to see if they sold the pump. I ended up finding it in the bottom of one of the shelves and $3 cheaper than the site! Yay! I picked up two: one for the main floor bathroom and one for upstairs.

It works!
It's not the ideal pump I want in the bathroom (I prefer my white ceramic pump), but this will do AND it will help me save money on soap and save my sanity for the mess!

Saving my sanity is the utmost importance right now :).

Have you entered the giveaway yet? If not, what are you waiting for? Who doesn't want money towards a cool Blurb book? :)

bathroom stencil part deux

Tuesday, March 08, 2011

I saw this pic on Design*Sponge today and I think I might go with something like this for the stencil colour for the bathroom. The walls are already grey so I would just need to get a pearly silvery/grey colour for the stencil colour. Stay tuned!

powder room oomph solution

Via

Back in September, I wrote that my main floor bathroom needed some oomph. I wanted something fun like wallpaper, but to be honest I'm not a huge fan of the the stuff because taking it down is a royal pain in the behind.

Enter stencils. I fell in love with this stencil from Isabella and Max Rooms but the company doesn't seem to ship to Canada and I couldn't find any contact info to see if they'd make an exception. So I forgot about it for a while.

Then this morning on CityLine, they mentioned Cutting Edge Stencils which must deliver to Canada otherwise they wouldn't have it on CityLine! After perusing the site, I chose this pretty damask stencil for the bathroom. I'm not sure what colour I'll use but I'll likely just end up using a glaze of some sort. We'll see. Maybe I'll go with a bold colour. Should be a fun project!

my bathroom needs some oomph

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

When we moved into our new house a year and a half ago, we added a powder room on the main floor. I like the room but it needs some oomph. Here are some pics of the room (do you know how hard it is to take photos in a super small room???).

Here are the issues -- I like the grey colour but feel it needs some texture so I was thinking of getting some fun wallpaper to punch up the room. Also, I think there's enough room beside the toilet to put a bench or a shelf or something but what to put? (I also need to figure out how to straighten that darn toilet paper holder!) I work at home and use this washroom 18 million times a day (esp since being pregnant) so I think about it a lot. What would you do?
