pinterest in the kitchen

Thursday, May 16, 2013

I think I've mentioned before* that I love Pinterest for keeping track of my recipes. I love looking at pictures when I cook to see if my final dish looks anything remotely like the one in the photo (most times it does not).

I thought I'd share some of my latest food pins of recipes I've tried and/or want to try.

Portobello Mushroom Burgers Allrecipes.com: I made these last night and they were a nice alternative to a veggie burger and my hubby seemed to like them. I didn't have time to marinate them for as long as the recipe mentioned, so I think they would be a bit tastier if I had let them sit a bit longer.

Arugula and Lentil Salad with Goat Cheese - Martha Stewart Recipes: Everything about this looks scrumptious! I haven't tried it yet but it's definitely on the list to try soon. I like anything with tomatoes and goat cheese.

Pasta Salad with Goat Cheese and Arugula from Martha Stewart: Pasta with goat cheese? You've won me over. Again, haven't tried this but it looks too good to pass up.

Grilled Squash Ribbons from Whole Foods recipes: I thought this is one of the prettiest ways to grill summer veggies (to be honest, it kind of looks a little like cold cuts and bacon).

2 Ingredient Organic Dark Chocolate Trail Mix Energy Bites from Undressed Skeleton: This is likely one of those snacks you're supposed to eat one of as a serving but that I would eat 10 (or all of them in one sitting). These seem like the perfect mix of salty and sweet!

So that's the latest on my Pinterest food board.

What are you cooking these days?

*I realize that all of my photos are gone from the post mentioned, but I'm too lazy to look for them now. Anyone else annoyed at the new way (or lackthereof) to embed photos from Pinterest? I supposed it's a way to disuade people from using them illegally.

turning 60 party food

Wednesday, February 06, 2013

My mom is turning the big 6-0 next week and we're throwing her a little open house get together this weekend. Even though we're keeping it pretty simple, I thought it would be fun to see what kind of appeys we could do for the big event. Of course I turned to Pinterest! Here are some yummy ideas I found*:

Puff pastry vegetable tarts

Mini Pancake Appetizers: More for a brunch, but thought they were cute - hmmm I bet Leo would like these!

Just love these - so adorable

Cucumber Feta Rolls

Avocado Bruschetta

Easy Goat Cheese Appetizer: I want this right now!

Light Herbed Hummus: I may try this one - yum.

BLT cups

Caprese appetizers: High impact without a lot of work!

Watermelon cubes: These are my favourite - so cute!

Wonton Cups with Cream Cheese and Chutney

*(caution: don't look for appetizer ideas before you eat lunch! I was salivating flipping through all the pictures.)

nursery update: crib sheet

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

The nursery is coming along (slowly!) and now that I'm finished my library book I can now concentrate on getting some stuff done.

Last night I finished my crib sheet. It was mostly done, but I didn't have a long enough elastic to finish it. Thankfully my Mom came to the rescue this past weekend and gave me some from her stash.

Like my Etsy pin art? Super safe for a baby ;)
I really like it! AND it was super easy to make. I used this crib sheet tutorial that I found on Pinterest. It probably took about 40 mins to make in total.

I just love having something pretty for the baby to pee, pooh and spit up on :).

We're having the room painted tomorrow with Daiquiri Ice from Benjamin Moore. It's my way of pretending to drink my face off while pregnant. You can kind of see the paint splotch on the can - it's super light mint which I'm kind of excited about. I'll probably get it painted and it will look white, but that's ok too. Baby steps with colour people!

Tonight I'll be able to finish my pouf! I was able to get a lot of it done last night as well... stay tuned!

Ok back to work - it's my last week of work! Crazy really since I've only been back for 7 months....

Happy Tuesday!

pinterest: sewing

Friday, June 22, 2012

I thought it would be fun to do a little round-up of the stuff I've pinned on Pinterest lately. Let's look at some pins from my Sewing Stuff board:

Love this iPhone sleeve made out of a tie. Mark has a few ties I could do this with...

Make your own tunic - love this blog!

Sweet pin cushions in vintage cookie cutters.

Interesting apron!

This last one isn't really sewing, but I have an off-white table running looking for some pizzazz and I thought this one was cute.

What have you been pinning lately?

Happy Friday!

vintage pinterest & thoughts on a monday

Monday, June 04, 2012

In my never ending task of cleaning the house to make room for the new baby, I came across my old recipes and home binder full of tear sheets. I think I did this about seven years ago or so pre-pinterest. I'm sure you all have similar binders.

You can tell by the dust accumulation that it hasn't been used in awhile.

When I saw it I thought: Don't need those! I'll just throw them out. But then I started flipping through and I still love this stuff! Plus it's kind of fun to see how my style has changed over the years (answer: not that much!)

So let's see....

I have some yummy recipes...

And some inspiration for the home (at the time I lived in a 600 square foot bungalow not much to work with!)

I had this page pinned to my bulletin board for ages - it seemed so fresh to me.

I once had an unhealthy obsession with the Noguchi table. I really wanted one of these suckers.

This pic kind of looks like a combo of my main floor and basement bathrooms (I said kind of...).

A fresh and airy bedroom with a simple ensuite

I remember absolutely loving this outdoor living area. I kept wondering how I could make it work in my little backyard.

Lots of fun going through this stuff - I even found a recipe for dinner last night!

-----
Now for some random thoughts:
  • Have you ever worn an apron while cooking? I put one on tonight for the first time because I was wearing a white shirt and I've been having a really bad track record spilling on myself every day. Why haven't I don't this before?? Very Suzy-Homemaker, but very smart.
  • I think Leo is getting interested in potty training - he now says "Bye bye pee pee" when the toilet flushes..."
  • Do you have a pet? Do you want one? Just kidding (kind of) my cat is driving me bonkers. He nips at my toes and meows all the time these days. I think he realizes that there is another baby coming into the house and I'm sure he's not too happy about it.
  • I'm half-way through a book for my street book club. We're reading Caleb's Crossing and I'm really liking it so far. I wasn't sure I would because it takes place in the 1600s and the language was a bit hard to get used to but I did! I really want to finish it because I have yet to finish one yet for this group! A book a month is hard to do these days...
  • So ya... better get reading...
  • Happy Monday!

can't wait to try...

Saturday, April 14, 2012

So as I mentioned, I've been pretty good at keeping up with my meal plans and I'm happy to say that I've made a lot of the things I've pinned on my food board. Can I just say that people make their food look soooo good! I wish my stuff turned out looking so good! mmm.

Here are some things that I can't wait to try:

Honey yogurt berry pops
um yum!

Sweet Potato Paleo Brownies
I had never heard of Paleo before but I guess it's some type of diet. Regardless, these look delish.

Grilled chicken tzatziki pita
Anything Greek is good in my books!

Pumpkin and Sage Lasagne
I guess this is more of a fall type meal, but I still may try it soon!

Southwestern Stuffed Peppers
Love anything with peppers

Ok I had better stop for now. I just finished dinner and already I'm feeling hungry!

What has been your favourite Pinterest meal so far?
