sunroom revamp: the little birdie bench pillow
Thursday, February 28, 2013
Here's my little birdie bench pillow. I finally got around to making it which makes me laugh because things that used to take 1/2 an hour to make, now take me 5 days with children. Go figure.
I'd like to put another pillow with it... maybe a small rectangular one. We'll see - for now this bench is done!
Just for fun here's the before again:
loving new stuff from madewell
Tuesday, February 26, 2013
I was on Madewell's site this past weekend pretending to shop and fell in love with a few things...
silk day dress: if I weren't nursing Mila, this would be in my wardrobe! |
the duet mini wedge in speckled calf hair: love this colour combo and a mini-wedge is just up my alley |
silk-front tee in gingham bow: Really love this shape and pattern but not sure how it would look on my short body! |
hearts bandana: I like how this is classic but with a cute little heart detail twist |
soft mix top: I adore the variations in the fabric on this top. |
utility biker jacket: I actually love this whole outfit but I don't think the dress is available anymore! |
What's your pick?
saturday adventure: walk by the water
Monday, February 25, 2013
Saturday we decided to go for a little walk by the water and we ventured off to a new part of the lakeshore trail in Port Credit we've never been before. We parked on a dead-end street and walked right into the woods (how great would it be to live right beside the woods, but still in the city?!)
What did you do this weekend?
Right in the middle of our walk were a few houses with what seemed like no road access. Very private! |

florida 2013
Tuesday, February 19, 2013
Last week we went to Florida for what's becoming our annual family trip. Mark's parents rent a house for a few months near Ft. Myers and it makes for a nice getaway during the dreary months of February. The thing is - it turned really cold by the end of the week! As in 1 degree cold (33.8 for you Fahrenheit folks!). This happened last year too so I think if we go next year we'll head down a week later.
Also Leo just wasn't himself this trip. He was fine, but by the end of the week he started to act like a different kid. Yes, yes, he's two, but I wasn't diggin' it. Just out of sorts and barely napped. Oh well, hopefully I can get him back in a routine this week.
Mila turned six months while we were down there (Valentine's Day!) so I took a few shots of her. I want to have the same background of the other monthly shots so I'll have to do that this week! And Mark and I got to go on a date - wow! We went to a super random place by the beach. It was basically a gift shoppe/boat and jet ski rental place that had a really nice outdoor restaurant in the back with beautiful stone work and outdoor heaters that lit up like fire towers. We're not eating meat these days so we had some salads with shrimp (oh ya we're still eating fish). It was nice to get out on our own.
Hope you had a great week!
snow day
Friday, February 08, 2013
It certainly is a snow day here in Toronto. Leo is still wearing his pjs (pants from one set and a top from another) in addition to his beach shoes (we're getting ready to go to the south). And because I'm not a fan of winter and bundling up, I brought the snow inside instead. Lazy yes, but this kept him busy for at least 40 minutes. I highly recommend it.
Have a fantastic weekend!

earl grey tea latte with almond milk
Thursday, February 07, 2013
Today I wanted to share a fun bevie I've been enjoying the past couple of weeks: earl grey tea latte with almond milk. We mostly drink almond milk at home because of Leo (he has a dairy intolerance) and I've been making it from scratch lately thanks to a yummy recipe recently posted on Oh She Glows.
Here's the thing about almond milk from a tetra box: it doesn't tend to froth very nicely, especially when it hits the heat of the tea (or coffee), but when you make it from scratch it gets nice and creamy making it the perfect accompaniment for a latte.
I don't have a fancy schmancy machine to froth the milk for me, so I bought a cheap one from Ikea a few weeks ago and it does the trick nicely.
Here are the steps:
Make your tea: I use Organic Cream of Earl Grey tea from David's Tea
While the tea is steeping, froth up the milk. I didn't heat my milk because I'm lazy and it still worked well.
Look a that milk! I think it looks delicious.
Now add the tea and milk to your cup, add a bit of vanilla, top with cinnamon and voila!
Enjoy!
turning 60 party food
Wednesday, February 06, 2013
My mom is turning the big 6-0 next week and we're throwing her a little open house get together this weekend. Even though we're keeping it pretty simple, I thought it would be fun to see what kind of appeys we could do for the big event. Of course I turned to Pinterest! Here are some yummy ideas I found*:
Puff pastry vegetable tarts
Mini Pancake Appetizers: More for a brunch, but thought they were cute - hmmm I bet Leo would like these!
Just love these - so adorable
Cucumber Feta Rolls
Avocado Bruschetta
Easy Goat Cheese Appetizer: I want this right now!
Light Herbed Hummus: I may try this one - yum.
BLT cups
Caprese appetizers: High impact without a lot of work!
Watermelon cubes: These are my favourite - so cute!

Wonton Cups with Cream Cheese and Chutney
*(caution: don't look for appetizer ideas before you eat lunch! I was salivating flipping through all the pictures.)

weekend fun: blue rodeo and romancing the rails
Monday, February 04, 2013
Hey there - hope you had a nice weekend! As I mentioned Friday, Friday night we went to see Blue Rodeo. It was a fantastic show and so nice to get out just the two of us.
Saturday afternoon we took Leo and Mila to see a model train show in Liberty Village here in Toronto called The Romance of the Rails put on by The Model Railroad Club of Toronto. He loved it! It was amazing to see all of the work and finite attention to detail that has gone into making this village. Apparently there are 5000 feet of track - unreal!

If you or your little ones are interested in going, the show is open for a few more weekends before everything is moved to a new location. Check out the site for more info.
Happy Monday!

Happy Friday Feb First!
We're off for our official February date tonight from our Twelve Dates Project: Blue Rodeo at Massey Hall! If you've never been to Massey Hall for a concert, I highly recommend it. It's my go-to place to see music. The sound and atmosphere are amazing.
We're hoping to get a little bite to eat in too, but we'll see how this putting the baby to sleep thing goes :).
Hope y'all have a great weekend!
