are you a fan?

I promise I'm not jumping on the bandwagon for getting a facebook page -- I've had it for awhile, I've just been a tad silent about it. Anyway if you're interested in becoming a fan, come on over!
Figure 8 Scarf
Thursday, March 24, 2011
This is my first sewing project of 2011: The Anna Maria Horner Figure 8 Scarf. Yes I can't believe it's almost APRIL and I'm just posting a sewing project. I looked back in this blog and I used to be a sewing machine!
I'm pretty happy with how this turned out though I'm not sure I'll ever wear it. I love it but I'm not one for flowers. I bought the fabric to step out of my grey box so we'll see. Mark thinks it looks too big, as in puffy.
It was pretty easy to sew, but I did have a few hiccups considering the fabrics are kind of shiny and I'm more of a 100%-cotton-no-swearing-while-cutting-and-sewing type of girl.
(don't you love the side look look? I figure if I look sideways it will make me look less tired... did it work? :P)
summer dreamin'

I'm excited to sit on the back deck soon... I can't wait until I can hang out there with Leo all day and not think of this dreary weather. I was reading Suzanne Dimma's blog this afternoon and I was reminded of Karen von Hahn's backyard. I just love her outdoor couch with all of the colourful pillows. I think I'll a bit more colour to my little sitting area this year. Ahhh Summer....

Spring napkins
Sunday, March 13, 2011
Spring is just around the corner so I think it's time to infuse some colour into this place. I'm thinking of making some new napkins for the dinning room and outdoor eating area and I'm loving these zinnia napkins from Anthropologie. I saw them in Lonny this month and I'm loving the colour. They're kind of similar to the napkins I made a few years ago (man time flies!) but the colour is a bit more bold which is what I'm looking for.

bathroom stencil part deux
Tuesday, March 08, 2011
I saw this pic on Design*Sponge today and I think I might go with something like this for the stencil colour for the bathroom. The walls are already grey so I would just need to get a pearly silvery/grey colour for the stencil colour. Stay tuned!
powder room oomph solution

Back in September, I wrote that my main floor bathroom needed some oomph. I wanted something fun like wallpaper, but to be honest I'm not a huge fan of the the stuff because taking it down is a royal pain in the behind.
Enter stencils. I fell in love with this stencil from Isabella and Max Rooms but the company doesn't seem to ship to Canada and I couldn't find any contact info to see if they'd make an exception. So I forgot about it for a while.
Then this morning on CityLine, they mentioned Cutting Edge Stencils which must deliver to Canada otherwise they wouldn't have it on CityLine! After perusing the site, I chose this pretty damask stencil for the bathroom. I'm not sure what colour I'll use but I'll likely just end up using a glaze of some sort. We'll see. Maybe I'll go with a bold colour. Should be a fun project!

on being sick post-preg
Thursday, March 03, 2011
The past few weeks have flown by but not without catching a bug or two and I'm not talking about the dirt-travelling kind -- the bugs I'm talkin' about have been infesting my body.
Three weeks ago I decided to start going back to the gym. I go to Goodlife and was a regular to BodyPump before I got pregnant. They have a class on Mondays at 9:30 so I thought I would bring Mr. Leo to the daycare and go to class. It was a GREAT class. I loved being back and I couldn't wait to go to the next class I had in my schedule.
Wednesday I got Leo into the car and drove to a different gym for another BodyPump class. I was pretty tired that morning but I went anyway. The process for signing Leo into the daycare took way longer than the first gym and it was PACKED. I missed my class but decided to go on the treadmill to get some cardio. I had my yoga mat with me so I wedged it between my treadmill and the one next to me and off I walked while watching Cake Boss on the TV above. After about 13 mins I heard a thumping noise and realized it was the treadmill beside me. The thumping noise was coming from my yoga mat that had wedged itself under the treadmill next to me and the woman was running off balanced. I was so embarrassed. Both of us were on our hands and knees trying to pull the darn thing out from under the treadmill. We finally got it and I took off to get Leo. That was enough exercise for me.
When I was packing Leo up the girl looking after him told me that some of the kids had been playing with Leo's soother so I rinced it off and as I was leaving she said "We sure do have a lot of sick kids here today!" Anyway that totally grossed me out and that afternoon I was sick to my stomach. I'm not sure if it was a coincidence (and yes ok I've been known to have a slight case of hypochondria) but I think I caught it from the day care.
Anyway it was a one day thing so I went to the first gym the next week and the day after that I got sick again with another 24 hr flu. I can tell you that I RARELY get sick. Honestly I don't even remember the last time I was sick to my stomach. Well, I can tell you that it was probably in university after a heavy night of drinking pints. So that flu lasted a day but the day after that I was exahausted and spent all day taking naps.
Then last week I was out and about running some errands and I the next day I started getting a cough which lasted for 3 days and then I was hit with the WORST cold known to human kind. I was miserable. I still have the cough.
So I decided that the gym day care and being out in general is making me sick but also I did some reading and apparently those of us who have pushed human beings out of our bodies have a shitty immune system post-pregnancy. So I have to get it back up to working the way it did beforehand because MAN I do not do well sick.
Where was I going with all of this? Oh ya I think I was just writing this because basically since the last time I wrote I've been sick. This week I'm not too bad, but my kid decided to have his 3 month growth spurt so I'm waking up at all hours of the night. Oh what fun. Good thing he's cute -- I mean honestly, how can you get mad at that face up there?
